How is the book personalised?

Their name is on the cover and all through the book, and their face is in every picture. You tell us where you grew up and the decade you remember best, and where they live now. Every page puts your then next to their now.

What’s the story?

Your child steps back into the place and the decade you grew up in, and asks what’s changed. The shops, the toys, the way you got to school. Some things are very different. Some things never change at all. Then it’s home again, to their own street.

The first read is mostly questions.

Did you really have that? Where was your phone? Why is the car that shape? Then they find their own street and tell you what’s different now.

Who is Tandem?
Tandem builds personalised stories where your child is the star. Their name is on the cover, their face is in the pictures, and the whole story is built around where they live and what they love right now. We’re a small team of parents, doctors and child psychologists who believe technology, used responsibly, can make childhood more magical. One of us reads every book before it’s printed.
How long does it take?
About four minutes of yours. Then a few minutes of ours while the pages are drawn, and you can read each one as it lands. Printing and posting takes a few more days.
What if I can’t remember much?
You don’t need to. Tell us the place and the decade, and we fill in what that place and time were really like. The best bits come when you read it together and add your own.
Can I order it for someone else to give?
Yes. Tell us who is giving it, and where and when they grew up. It’s their childhood in the book, so ask them first. It’s a good excuse for a phone call.
What if it arrives and it’s not right?
Tell us. A real person reads every message, and if the book is not right we put it right or give you your money back.
